Brittany Morgan Murphy was Born July 19, 1986, she was 33 years old when she took her last breath doing what she did best, taking care of her children. One late afternoon in November of 2019, she was moving her kids and herself to back home across town. She pulled over to fix something in the trunk of the car when a distracted driver driving at a high speed hit her and she passed later that night at the hospital. Her children were sitting in the back seat witnessing the whole event.
This is the recapped told to me by her then 10-year-old daughter, Abby, as she called me from the hospital in Oklahoma that very night her mother died. All I can remember is “Aunt Carol my mom was hit by a car and died” my heart literally sank, and my stomach was nausea, and I for the first time in my life I was stunt, really stunt, the unimaginable happened.
Brittany was the first born to my sister Sandra Kay Murphy, a single woman at the time a few years out of High School. Within a few years Brittany moved to Oklahoma with her mother and now new Dad. A couple years later her brother was born.
Brittany graduated Kellyville High School got married and had three children. In September 2008 she lost her first born to an accident. She picked herself up and moved forward. She got divorced in 2017 and decided to go back to school for studies as a medical assistant. She worked for Head Start Day Care while taking care of her two children and attending school. Unfortunately, Brittany Morgan was diagnosed as suffering from Bi-Polar along with showing signs of developing lupus.
I was watching from afar, every so often Brittany would text me, Aunt Carol, I Love you and I am sorry I have not reached out to you for a while. But things are hard, and I am not sure if Lizzy or Abby will be able to get …… She was trying so hard to not ask for help but at the same time ask. So, in the same fashion, I said let me help you and I would send her a check which she would say thank you once she received it in the mail.
Brittany was always a care giver, mother, sister, daughter, and niece. After her death, I was talking with a good friend, about doing more for my district. He suggested a non-profit and name it after my niece. What a coincidence, another person suggested talking to me about doing a non-profit as well. Here- was the sign from God showing me to the place I need to go next.
Hence the birth of Brittany Morgan’s Kids. Brittany Morgan’s Kids is an organization that believes in promises of a future, someone there to help without asking. Brittney Morgan’s Kids focuses on giving a voice to Burlington County’s kids by doing our best to ensure all of Burlco’s children have food, proper clothing and access to counselling services. Addressing a child’s physical and mental health needs are essential to their full development as adults.”
